About the course

The purpose of the course is that the student develops knowledge and gain basic skills in statistical models in order to handle the stochastic variations and also be familiar with some data analysis methodologies, which are based on probability theory, for instance, parameter estimate, correlation and regression analysis, hypothesis testing.

Course content

The Course contains the following moments:

- Probability theory: classical probability, Stochastic variables in one and higher dimension, some well-known distributions, Central limit theorems, Approximations
- Inference theory: Sampling, Descriptive statistics, Point-wise estimate, Confidence Interval, Comparison in pair and for independent samples, Hypothesis testing, Analysis of variance
- Statistical models: Correlation, Simple linear regression, Nonlinear regression, Multiple regression
- SPSS program

Entry requirements

Pass in following course: MA209A: Analysis A and Linear Algebra, 15 credits or alternatively at least 15 credits from MA301A: Calculus with Applications and MA300A: Linear Algebra with Applications.

The equivalent of English 6 in Swedish secondary school.

Course evaluation

Malmö University provides students who participate in, or who have completed a course, with the opportunity to express their opinions and describe their experiences of the course by completing a course evaluation administered by the University.
